The GULC/MLK scholarship will be divided into two categories as detailed below:
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship will be given to any student who is a resident of West Volusia County Cities (DeLand, Orange City, Deltona, DeLeon Springs, Debary) and maintains a high school GPA of 2.0-3.0. In addition this student must be interested in attending either a 4 year college, 2 year college, or trade school to obtain a certification. The student must also be between ages 17-21. However, if released from incarceration, the student may apply up to 25 years of age. Lastly, the student must submit a 1 page essay identifying how Dr. King and his life’s work has benefited them and/or their community.
This scholarship ranges from 500.00-2,500.00 dollars
The Dickerson Fund is a memorial fund established by Greater Union First Baptist Church to promote higher education to the children of Greater Union First Baptist Church members. In order to apply for this scholarship, the applicant must meet all above criteria for the MLK scholarship and be a good standing member of Greater Union First Baptist Church. Good standing is determined by a letter provided from the Pastor, or designated person as recognition that the person is in good standing with the church. In addition, the candidate will not be allowed to apply for the MLK scholarship.
